Dr Richa Sharma
Dr Richa Sharma is an experienced General Ophthalmologist with subspecialty fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Medical Retina.
Dr Sharma graduated from medical school at the prestigious University of Pune, India, in 2003 and further completed training in Ophthalmology to qualify as a General Ophthalmologist in India. She then completed a two and a half year Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane under the mentorship of Professor Glen Gole, and in 2016 undertook a further one year General Ophthalmology and Medical Retina Fellowship at the Queensland Eye Institute and Mater Hospital in Brisbane under Associate Professor Anthony Kwan.
Dr Sharma is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and is a member of the All India Ophthalmology Society. She has worked within ophthalmology units at many major public hospitals throughout Queensland, and is currently appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Caloundra Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Hospital, as well as working at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. She is involved in the teaching and training of medical students and ophthalmology registrars, and holds the title of Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
Dr Sharma is passionate about General and Paediatric Ophthalmology. She has a keen interest in:
- Cataract surgery
- Pterygium surgery
- Strabismus surgery
- Management of medical retinal conditions (especially macular degeneration)
- Management of glaucoma
- Paediatric ophthalmology
She is multilingual and fluent in English, Hindi and Marathi.
